Investing comparison
Acorns vs Bloom
Updated
Acorns checked Bloom checked
Acorns and Bloom are both subscription apps for new investors. Acorns automates investing for you, and Bloom teaches you to invest while you do it.
Before you compare: This compares features and fees from each company's own pages. It isn't investment advice, and investing involves risk, including loss of money.
Full disclosure: Taylor Price, who runs Priceless Tay, owns Fifecta, so keep that in mind as you read this comparison.
Our take
Pick Acorns if you want investing to run in the background with Round-Ups and a retirement account, and pick Bloom if you want lessons on how investing works next to your investing account, including accounts for teens.
Priceless Tay
Short answer
Acorns picks a diversified portfolio for you and invests small amounts automatically, including spare change from Round-Ups. Bloom pairs lessons, games and an AI helper with an investing account, and it works for teens with a parent's sponsorship. Choose Acorns for automation, and Bloom to build your skills.

Bars show only when every app here lists a yearly price, so these prices sit side by side without them. "Lower price" marks the lowest monthly price the sources list. It's a number, not our pick. Prices are list prices from each app's own page, before tax and any offer. Investing fees appear as each company states them. A yearly advisory fee is a percent of your balance, not a monthly price, so it never gets a bar or a price tag.
Features
Bloom also lists AI features.

Yes means the official site lists it. No means the official site says the app doesn't have it.

How Acorns and Bloom differ
Acorns recommends an expert-built, diversified portfolio and invests for you, and its Round-Ups invest your spare change every time you make a purchase. If the terms are new, start with what an index fund is. Acorns lists an investment account, an IRA and UGMA/UTMA accounts, and Acorns Securities is a member of FINRA and SIPC.
Bloom's FAQ says its subscription includes an investing account, more than 200 interactive financial lessons and stock rewards for learning, and its home page describes an AI investing helper. Bloom offers Auto-Portfolios that copy the investments of top politicians and billionaires, and you can set up recurring investments into them. Its brokerage accounts are held at Alpaca Securities, a SIPC member.
SIPC (2026) protects you if a member brokerage fails, not against investments losing value. The table above shows each app's current plan prices, with the date we checked.
Which one fits your Money Type?
Priceless Tay sorts money habits into four Money Types: Strategist, Spender, Saver and Scrambler. Your type tells you which fix to make first, and it's a quick way to judge whether an app will help you or just look nice.
- Strategists: Compare each app's subscription cost with what you plan to invest, because a flat fee weighs more on a small balance.
- Spenders: Acorns' Round-Ups leave something behind from everyday purchases. Pair it with the Spender first fix, Sleep on It.
- Savers: Both fit you, because each one makes the first step into investing smaller. Pair it with the Saver first fix, Put It to Work.
- Scramblers: Cover your bills and an emergency fund before adding an investing subscription. Pair it with the Scrambler first fix, Bills First.
Not sure which one you are? Take the free Money Types quiz. It takes about two minutes.

What real users say
These are other people's opinions, not Priceless Tay's. We quote public reviews and posts word for word, link each one and show its date, but we haven't checked the claims in them. A post counts toward a theme when it uses one of that theme's keywords, so a mention can be praise or a complaint.
