Who Quicken Simplifi is for
Who Quicken Simplifi fits
- You want a spending plan that builds itself from your income, bills and subscriptions.
- You like seeing projected balances and what-if scenarios before you decide.
- You want spending, savings goals and investments in one web and mobile app.
Who should skip Quicken Simplifi
- You want to assign every dollar by hand in a zero-based budget.
- You'd rather pay month to month, since Quicken bills Simplifi annually.
- You need a free app.
Quicken Simplifi is a paid web and mobile app from Quicken that builds a spending plan for you. It starts with your monthly income, subtracts your bills and subscriptions, and shows what's left to spend and save.
Where some apps make you assign every dollar by hand, Simplifi does the math and keeps it current as you spend. That's the main reason people pick it, and it's also the main reason some people don't.
The current price and the other details sit in the box at the top of this review. Each one shows the date we checked it on Quicken's site.
How Simplifi works
Quicken describes the Spending Plan as personalized and automatic. It adjusts as you spend, and it shows how much you have left to spend per day for the rest of the month.
Simplifi doesn't force one budgeting system on you. Quicken says the tools can support zero-based budgeting, envelope budgeting, 50/30/20 and other methods, so you can keep the style you already use.
You connect your accounts, and Quicken says Simplifi connects to over 14,000 financial institutions. Transactions are categorized automatically, and upcoming bills and subscriptions get their own view, so a forgotten charge is easier to catch.
What stands out
Projected cash flow. Simplifi projects future balances from your income, spending, bills and expenses, and it lets you run what-if scenarios before you decide.
Savings goals. You can create custom goals, commit cash to them and track your progress.
Investments in the same app. Quicken says Simplifi shows your full portfolio with tools like cost basis, performance analysis and real-time quotes.
A retirement planner. Simplifi can build projections from your savings, expenses, investments and retirement age.
Where Simplifi asks more of you
Simplifi is billed annually, so you pay for the year up front instead of month to month. Check the price box above for the current plan and any first-year offer before you sign up.
Because the plan is automatic, you also give up some of the hands-on feel of a zero-based budget. If assigning every dollar yourself is what keeps you honest, a method-first app like YNAB may suit you better.

Simplifi and your Money Type
Priceless Tay sorts money habits into four Money Types: Strategist, Spender, Saver and Scrambler. Your type tells you which fix to make first.
Strategists are the best fit. Projections, what-if scenarios and a retirement planner are the tools a Strategist reaches for anyway. The Strategist first fix, Save the Raise, is easier when you can see what the extra money does to your projected balance.
Spenders benefit from the left-to-spend-per-day number. It's a quick check before a purchase you didn't plan, which pairs well with Sleep on It.
Savers can use the savings goals to give idle cash a purpose, then put it to work.
Scramblers get help from the bills and subscriptions view, as long as they still decide what gets paid first on payday. That's the Scrambler first fix, Bills First.
