What is a First Fix?
A First Fix is the one change Priceless Tay pairs with each of the four Money Types, a single action you can start this week instead of rebuilding your whole budget. Each type gets a different First Fix because each type gets stuck in a different moment. The First Fix is the one change that makes the rest of your money system easier.
Key takeaways
- There are four First Fixes, one for each Money Type.
- Spender: Sleep on It. Saver: Put It to Work. Scrambler: Bills First. Strategist: Save the Raise.
- Each one sits on a Bad, Better, Best ladder, with the First Fix as the Better step.
- It is the second step in the method: know your type, fix it, run it, grow it.
The four First Fixes
Spender: Sleep on It
Before you buy something you did not plan for, wait one night. A Spender's money leaves before it has a job, so the fix is a little friction before the swipe instead of shame after the receipt. The Best rung is a monthly fun-money amount you spend guilt-free, sleeping on anything over it. Read Sleep on It.
Saver: Put It to Work
Pick one amount sitting in savings and move it where it can grow. First work out your safe number, the emergency fund you want untouched. Then move one amount above it into a high-yield savings account, or start investing a small amount each month. Read Put It to Work.
Scrambler: Bills First
On payday, pay the bills before anything else, every time. It gives you one default order, so you stop deciding from scratch each payday. The Best rung is setting bills to pay automatically on payday. Read Bills First.
Strategist: Save the Raise
When you earn more, save the extra before your spending catches up. Decide what share of new income goes to saving or investing, then automate it on payday so the plan stays ahead of your lifestyle. Read Save the Raise.
How a First Fix works
Every First Fix sits on a three-rung ladder. Bad is the default pattern, like paying whatever feels most urgent that day. Better is the First Fix itself. Best is the automated version, where the good habit happens without you deciding each time.
Each fix also comes with three steps for the week. For Bills First, that means: list every bill and its due date in one place, pay those bills first on your next payday, and once that works, set them to pay automatically.
Here is a hypothetical example with round numbers. Say a Scrambler gets paid $2,000 every two weeks and has $1,200 in bills due before the next paycheck. Under the old pattern, the first $300 goes to whatever texts, subscriptions, or errands show up that morning, and a bill gets paid late. Under Bills First, the $1,200 goes out on payday, and the remaining $800 is what is left to work with. The income did not change. The order did.
Why it matters for your Money Type
The Scrambler Money Type describes someone whose money has no order for what happens first. Money comes in, but it keeps missing the right place at the right time.
That is why a single change matters so much here. A Scrambler does not need a perfect spreadsheet. They need one default order for the moment money lands, and Bills First is that order.
The same logic holds for every type. A Spender needs a pause, a Saver needs permission to move money that is already there, and a Strategist needs one bigger upgrade. After the First Fix is in place, a monthly Money Date keeps it running. Find your type and your fix with the Money Type quiz.
Common questions
What is the first fix for each Money Type?
Strategist: Save the Raise. Spender: Sleep on It. Saver: Put It to Work. Scrambler: Bills First.
Why only one fix instead of a full budget?
The method starts with one change you can make this week. A single step matched to your pattern is easier to keep than rebuilding everything at once, and it makes the rest of your money system easier.
What if I see myself in two Money Types?
Many people do. The quiz names the pattern that shows up most when money gets emotional, and that is the best place to start your First Fix.
What comes after the First Fix?
Set up a simple money system and check in once a month on a Money Date. With that running, extra money can go into investing. The overview lives on the Money Types hub.
