Who EveryDollar is for
Who EveryDollar fits
- You want a zero-based budget and you're happy to start with a free version.
- You plan your spending around payday and bill due dates.
- You'd use coaching and live Q&A sessions if they come with the app.
Who should skip EveryDollar
- You want bank syncing without paying for premium.
- You don't want to enter transactions by hand.
- You'd rather have an automatic spending plan than a zero-based one.
EveryDollar is a zero-based budgeting app from Ramsey Solutions. It comes in two versions: a free one you can use as long as you want, and a paid premium version with more automation and coaching.
The free version is a real budget, not a teaser. The big question is whether you want to type in your own transactions or pay for bank connect to pull them in for you.
The current premium price and trial sit in the box at the top of this review, with the date we checked them on the official page.
How EveryDollar works
EveryDollar uses zero-based budgeting. You give every dollar a job each month, so income minus your plan equals zero.
The free version lets you create a monthly budget with unlimited categories, reach it from your computer, phone or tablet, and enter transactions by hand. It also includes sinking funds, split transactions, due dates for bills, and support from a live person.
What premium adds
Bank connect. Premium streams transactions from your bank into your budget. EveryDollar says it uses Mastercard Connect and Plaid to connect your bank.
Payday planning. Premium lets you plan spending around payday and bill due dates.
Reports and export. You can view custom reports, compare spending over time and export your budget as a CSV file.
Goals and coaching. Premium adds long-term goals with a financial roadmap, a projected net worth, live Q&A sessions, and group or one-on-one coaching options.
Where EveryDollar asks more of you
On the free version, every transaction is yours to enter. That builds awareness, and it also means the budget is only as current as your last entry.
If you buy premium through Apple or Google Play, EveryDollar says you have to cancel with that provider. Canceling premium doesn't delete your account, so you keep the free version.
EveryDollar is a budgeting app, not a bank. Your savings still need a home, like a high-yield savings account.

EveryDollar and your Money Type
Priceless Tay sorts money habits into four Money Types: Strategist, Spender, Saver and Scrambler. Your type tells you which fix to make first.
Strategists may want premium for the reports and projected net worth, since tracking progress is the part they enjoy.
Spenders learn a lot from the free version, because typing in each purchase makes the pattern hard to ignore. Pair it with Sleep on It.
Savers can use sinking funds to give saved money a purpose, then put it to work.
Scramblers are the best fit. Planning around payday and bill due dates is exactly what a Scrambler needs, and the Scrambler first fix, Bills First, fits right into it.
Not sure which one you are? Take the free Money Types quiz.
How EveryDollar compares
EveryDollar and YNAB both use zero-based budgeting, so the choice usually comes down to price, method and how much automation you want. Our best budgeting apps guide covers the wider field.

What real users say
These are other people's opinions, not Priceless Tay's. We quote public reviews and posts word for word, link each one and show its date, but we haven't checked the claims in them. A post counts toward a theme when it uses one of that theme's keywords, so a mention can be praise or a complaint.
