Finances in ChatGPT connects your bank through Plaid and your credit through Experian. Here's how to set it up safely, plus 20 prompts to try.

ChatGPT now has a built-in money feature called Finances. As of October 2, 2026, OpenAI is rolling it out to Free and Go users in the U.S., after launching it for Pro and then Plus and Pro users earlier in 2026 (OpenAI). It connects your accounts through Plaid and, separately, your credit report and score through Experian (OpenAI Help Center).

Key takeaways

  • Finances in ChatGPT shows spending, bills, subscriptions, net worth, investments, and your Experian credit score.
  • Bank connections and credit are separate. You can use either or both.
  • It's a dashboard and Q&A. It doesn't replace a plan, and answers can be wrong.

How do you set up Finances in ChatGPT?

Per OpenAI's help article:

  1. Open Finances in ChatGPT's sidebar and select Get started.
  2. Select Connect with Plaid.
  3. Sign in and choose the financial institutions you want to connect.
  4. Return to ChatGPT. Syncing and categorizing can take a few minutes.

You can also start from any chat by typing "@Finances, connect my accounts" (OpenAI).

Before you connect: a 60-second safety check

  • Turn on two-factor authentication for ChatGPT and your bank.
  • Review ChatGPT's data controls.
  • Only connect the accounts you want analyzed.
  • Know how to disconnect, in ChatGPT and at my.plaid.com.

Bills and subscriptions 6. What bills are coming up before my next payday? 7. List all my subscriptions and what each costs per year. 8. Do I have any duplicate or forgotten subscriptions? 9. Did any recurring charge go up recently?

Saving and plans 10. Based on my last three months, how much could I realistically save each month? 11. Build me a simple monthly plan with fixed costs, fun money, and savings. 12. How long would it take to build a $400 buffer at $25 per paycheck? 13. Am I on pace to stay within my grocery budget?

Big picture 18. How has my net worth changed recently? 19. What's one change that would free up the most money next month? 20. Ask me five questions to figure out my Money Type, then suggest one first step.
