Travel to Portugal has increased recently as more people realize how gorgeous it is. This country is easy to navigate, especially the city of Lisbon, which is great for solo female travelers. This country has it all—beaches, cities, delicious food, and pleasant weather. Portugal’s most visited locations include Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve

Portugal is not as cheap as some other places in Asia or Eastern Europe, but It is far less expensive than in the UK or France. Avoid tourist trap restaurants, which are typically found in the heart of the city. If you look around, you can find three-course meals for $15 or less. There are reasonably priced ride-sharing applications like BOLT as well as buses and trains that travel between cities for as little as €3.

Safety

Portugal is considered one of the safest countries for anyone to travel and is known to have friendly locals. Portugal is ranked high for safety of LGBTQ+ travellers and POC as well.

Italy

You can’t go too wrong with a solo trip to Italy. Everything from the food, sightseeing and easy transportation, is 10/10. If this is your first time traveling alone to Italy, you might want to choose more touristy locations because many of the people will know English. If you want to escape the busiest travel periods and the heat of the summer, April and May are the best times to visit Italy. September through October are also excellent months to visit because of mild temperatures and fewer crowds. You will also save money on travel during this period.

8/10. Expect pickpockets in the summer, especially in Rome and sometimes Florence, but there’s little violent crime. 

Price

Depending on where and when you go, these can be anywhere from outrageous to reasonable. To find affordable prices, make sure you research restaurants and avoid those in the city center. An average meal can cost between $10 and $12. and a coffee can cost as little as $1.

Barcelona

Barcelona is a fantastic destination for a solo journey. lots of beaches, nightlife, sightseeing, and delicious food. Think about establishing yourself in a less-traveled-by neighborhood like Poblenou, Sants, or Gracia, away from the city center. You’ll experience the culture and life of the locals.  Since this city can get very crowded, it is advised to visit during the off-season to avoid the tourist traps.

8/10. Although there isn’t much violent crime, beware of pickpockets in crowded areas. Avoid carrying valuables in your pockets, such as cell phones or wallets, and always wear a secure bag. In busy areas, such as on public transportation, be vigilant. 

Cost

Lunch will often set you back 8–15 euros. The Ramblas is twice as expensive as other streets, so steer clear of eating there. Dinner will cost 10 euros or more. During the high season, costs can increase, so make sure to plan accordingly. Transportation is super affordable and accessible.

Bali

If you’re considering solo travel in Asia, Bali is a popular destination for solo travelers. One of the most popular spots for backpackers is Bali. Among the thousands of Indonesian islands, this little island is among the most popular for good reason—it’s a tropical paradise with surfing beaches and volcanoes. You don’t have to be concerned about traveling alone to Bali. This is a destination for digital nomads, so you are guaranteed to meet other solo travelers. A general note: There’s no public transportation, so scootering is the best way to get around cheaply. If you don’t feel confident driving a scooter, you can hire a driver for the day to get around. 

Safety

Bali’s high tourist volume makes it an ideal spot to meet people. In case something goes wrong or you simply need some help, the bustling tourist scene also serves as a safety net. Although it is rare, petty theft does occur, just like it does everywhere else. Take care of your possessions and act as you would at home. 

Cost

Eating local food and exploring the island on a scooter can make Bali incredibly affordable. Additionally, the housing accommodations are reasonably priced. If you want to, it’s simple to blow some cash on lavish hotels, floating breakfasts, and boujee brunches.

Vietnam

The country’s natural beauty is astounding, ranging from the breathtaking coastline to the lush inland regions. The cuisine is well known for being tasty and nutritious, and the culture is lively. The people of Vietnam are welcoming. A normal budget backpacker $35-$50/day. Traveling very comfortably would be $75-$100/day and like anywhere, it can go as high as you want for luxury travel. Food can cost as little as $5 a meal. Safety: Vietnam is now ranked the 8th safest destination for women traveling solo. Put down the computer and take the first flight to Hanoi or Saigon if you’re searching for simple female travel option!

Greece

Greece can be either expensive or very affordable, depending on when you go and how much planning you do ahead of time. Visit during low seasons without a doubt, and focus on a select few islands to hit. Dining out may get expensive. Instead, shop at the grocery store and have picnics on the beach like a local!

8/10. Expect pickpockets in the summer, especially in Athens, but there’s almost no violent crime in Greece.

Malaysia

You can try some delicious meals, go through a rainforest, and lounge on a beach! Malaysia’s islands are among the top 10 diving spots in the world, so if you enjoy the sea and diving, this is the place for you.  Malaysia is known for its diverse population, which makes it a food heaven.

Quite cheap. Street food can be purchased for less than $1, while hostels start at $7. 

Safety

9/10. There’s little crime. Although Malaysia isn’t as progressive as other countries it is still safe for women and LGBTQ+
